ASUS RoG Crosshair VI Hero X370 Motherboard Review

Final Thoughts

Price

The ASUS RoG Crosshair VI Hero X370 Motherboard doesn’t come cheap, with a current retail price of £228, although it did launch with an MSRP of £250. That’s a good price point for a high-end X370 motherboard, and as much as I love the MSI XPower Titanium, it’s around £60-70 more than the ASUS… that’s a big dent in your wallet compared to the ASUS board.

Overview

This board is spectacular, and so it should be, as it’s one of ASUS’s flagship motherboards for the AM4 platform, and packs in many more features than any one single user is ever likely to need or use. Of course, it comes with some core features that I’m sure will be welcome to those building an AM4 based system, as AMD have introduced DDR4 support, M.2 drives, and much more to with their new Ryzen processors and their new motherboard chipsets.

All Ryzen processors are unlocked, meaning they’re primed for overclocking. However, you’ll need the B350 or X370 chipset on your motherboard to take advantage of it. The Hero VI obviously features the X370 chipset and did a fantastic job of overclocking our Ryzen R7 1800X to its full potential, and it gave us some reliable benchmarks that went head to head with the MSI X370, even beating it from time to time. If you were to build a high-end gaming rig around this motherboard, it’s sure to please.

The overall build quality and design is spot on too. The VRM cooler is nice a chunky, and that played a big part in helping us drive high overclocks with good stability, plus it looks cool, and that’s just as important as performance these days. The black and grey metallic finish look great even with the power off, and it’s sure to take centre stage in your new system build. However, power it on, and you’ve got a range of funky RGB features to play around with too, ensuring you get the lighting just how you like it or you can simply turn it all off for maximum stealth.

Overall, there’s nothing I can fault about this board. It looks great, it’s durable, has all the features you could hope for on the AM4 platform, and it’s cheaper than a few of its competitors, yet goes head to head regarding performance.

Pros

  • Fantastic aesthetics
  • Customisable RGB lighting
  • Durable build quality
  • Great overclocking
  • Comprehensive BIOS options
  • Rear I/O shroud
  • Competitive price
  • Excellent performance

Cons

  • None

“If you’re looking for a high-end gaming motherboard for your new Ryzen CPU, with a robust range of features and great performance, the ASUS RoG Crosshair VI Hero is one of the best X370 motherboards on the market today!”
