With the keyboard turned on, you’re treated to a wave of rich and deep RGB colours. It may be wireless, but it still features ASUS AURA sync to pair it up with other peripherals, and even other PC hardware lighting tech such as your motherboard RGB. It’s the first keyboard to have wireless AURA sync! It has loads of built-in profiles, but you can fully customise the every keys colour in the desktop software too.
When powered up, the slider control has some funky LED lights of its own.
When you put your finger on the side, you can see the glow from the top, showing you what level its adjusted too. It’s a minor detail, but it’s a really cool one.
Another neat little detail has to be the key caps. They’re double shot PBT, so they have a truly premium feel to them. They have a mid-height design too, so they can mount lower down on the switch without bottoming out on the chassis. Another net gain here is the lower design reduces cap wobble and travel distance, giving the keyboard a much tighter response overall.
The arrow keys are well located, and I adapted to this layout far quicker than I would trying to use a typical laptop keyboard. Of course, this is NOT a a laptop keyboard, it’s a fully fledged mechanical keyboard!
It does look utterly fantastic though, and it feels even better to type on.
Fully equipped with Cherry MX keys, you know what you’re going to get. The key caps play a huge part in the feel of this keyboard. It’s fast, responsive, and actually surprisingly quiet too.
A world-class eSports champion I am not, but I know what I like while gaming and honestly, in wireless mode, latency just isn’t an issue. It hasn’t been for a few years, really, given the advancements in wireless technology. However, I can’t stress this enough, you can get 1ms response times with the USB cable connected. I doubt the wireless performance is far from that response time though.
The switches, the form factor, the bazillion features crammed in there, the RGB lighting… it’s all bang on perfect.
Then at the end of the day, lift it out of the tray, and cover it up to keep it safe from kids and cats.
