ASUS RoG GL552V 15.6″ Gaming Notebook Review

Introduction

Picking the right laptop can be a tricky task, as balancing your budget with your requirements can be something of a minefield. If you want something, faster, thinner, lighter, or more stylish, you can expect to pay a sizable premium, and if you want it to be gaming capable, you can expect an even bigger hit to the retail price. Enter the ASUS GL552V, one of the most popular ASUS gaming laptops on the market right now, as it blends a competitive price with stylish aesthetics, performance and it’s said to be more than capable of some high-end gaming. This caught our attention, so let’s jump right in and take a closer look at what the GL552V has to offer.

Features

  • Backlit, low-profile and easy-touch keys deliver perfect-response 1.8mm travel distance.
  • The latest USB 3.1 Type-C port for more convenient connectivity options.
  • Slide-off upgrade panel offers instant access, so fit an M.2 SSD, a bigger hard drive or more memory whenever you want.
  • Large 15.6-inch Full HD display has a matte-black finish that eliminates glare for stunning visuals without distraction.

Specs

  • Display: 15.6″ 1080P
  • CPU: i5 6300HQ
  • GPU: 960M (2GB VRAM)
  • RAM: 8GB
  • SSD: 256GB
  • HDD: 1TB

The packaging is really nicely designed, with a durable box that comes nicely branded, although it does lack an image of the laptop, which is a little strange.

Around the back, all the usual model number details, as well as a few indicators of included promotional materials; McAfee LiveSafe and World of WarShips account.

In the box, you’ll find everything you need to get you started. There’s the usual documentation, a screen cleaning cloth, velcro cable ties, as well as a power adapter. What I do like is that the power brick isn’t too large, so storing it shouldn’t prove a major problem.

A welcome treat, you’ll also find this lovely ROG gaming mouse, perfect for those who want to game on this laptop, as using a trackpad isn’t going to get you many wins in CS:GO anytime soon.
