ASUS ROG GL703G 144Hz G-Sync Gaming Laptop Review

Synthetic Benchmarks

3DMark Firestrike

With the ASUS ROG GL703G being powered by an 8th-generation i7 and a Nvidia 1070, we expected big things in terms of a combined scoring of CPU and GPU performance. As the chart below shows, our expectations were not misplaced. Falling only slightly short of the truly excellent ASUS Zephyrus this laptop gives an exceptionally impressive score and also represents the 5th highest result we have tested to date.

Unigine Superposition 1080p Extreme

Unigine scores find it calling in that close partnership that systems with Nvidia 1070’s have. While the results are towards to the lower end, you can clearly see the ground that has developed. As such, it not only confirms that the Nvidia 1070 is an excellent GPU, but also that results across various products rarely vary much for any point of note.

PCMark 10

In terms of pure processing power, the more I see of the 8th-generation intel processors the more impressed I am. The ASUS ROG Gl703G gave an excellent score in the PCMark testing with it being the 2nd highest ever result we have recorded. At least in this category of testing. The CPU Intel® Core™ i7-8750H Processor is clearly a top performer.

WPrime 32M and 1024M

In terms of the WPrime testing, we are again treated to some exceptional performance figures. The ASUS ROG GL703G gave the 4th best overall results we have seen. For a test that specifically targets single and multi-thread speeds, again the Intel processor impresses.

Cinebench R15

Confirming the results seen in the WPrime testing, the Cinebench results again finds the ASUS ROG Gl703G giving the 4th best results ever recorded. Since this specifically tests cores we find particularly note that the multicore results are so high.

Handbrake MP4 to MKV Conversion 4K

We have often made the point that it’s unlikely that you would buy a laptop with the specific purpose of video rendering. With the growing community of streamers and video content providers though, it is, if nothing else, a happy bonus if a laptop can perform well. Rendering video in our conversion test at 35 frames per second, the ASUS ROG GL703G proved to be more than capable and actually quite impressive.
