Asus ROG GX501 GTX 1080 Laptop Just 16.65mm Thick

Asus is releasing a new Republic of Gamers laptop which packs in the mobile version of NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card and is only 16.65mm thick, LaptopMedia has discovered. In addition to the GTX 1080 mobile, the Asus ROG GX501 boasts an Intel Caby Lake processor, a 15.6-inch 4K display, and up to 24GB of DDR4 RAM.

The mobile version of the GeForce GTX 1080 features a GP104 GPU – the same as its desktop counterpart – which features 2560 CUDA cores, a base clock of 1,607MHz and Boost clock of 1,733MHz, 8GB of GDDR5X VRAM, a 256-bit memory interface, and a TDP of 150W.

While little is known about the GX501’s hardware specifications, it seems likely that its Kaby Lake CPU could be either a Core i7-7700HQ or a Core i7-7820HK, though the former is more probable. The laptop will include a PCIe x4 NVMe SSD (capacity unknown) and the display is UHD (3840 x 2160) with NVIDIA G-Sync support.

The most notable feature of the GX501, though, is its thin profile, measuring just over half-an-inch thick. In order to maximise the space within the laptop, Asus has pushed the keyboard further down, leaving an odd-looking blank space above it. Unless you’re a masochist, typing on the thing will likely require a wrist support.

We should expect the Asus ROG GX501 to be officially unveiled at CES 2017, which takes place in Las Vegas in January.
