We’re all aware that high refresh rate monitors are becoming more common across a variety of resolutions, with the dominant being 1080p 144Hz and above, though over the last couple of years, this has increased to 240Hz, and even 360Hz in an effort to give hardcore FPS gamers the very best gameplay, and the smoothest experience possible, but ASUS ROG along with NVIDIA has taken this one step further.
At NVIDIA’s Computex keynote address, the beastly ASUS ROG Swift 500Hz gaming monitor was announced, making it the world’s first 500Hz refresh rate Esports gaming monitor. The monitor supports NVIDIA G-Sync technology for seamless smooth gameplay on a 24.1″ 1920×1080 display with an E-TN panel. A panel type that’s geared towards Esports professionals and has key features like an Esports vibrance mode built directly into the monitor, which allows more light to travel through the LCD crystals, therefore giving higher levels of colour vibrancy, which is something TN panels have typically lacked in comparison to more expensive IPS panels.
This is a huge feat for ASUS, who back in 2012, were the first manufacturer to introduce higher-refresh 144Hz monitors to the market and are looking to continue the trend, by staying ahead of the curve in terms of fast-paced gaming monitors that can give Esports professionals the edge over the competition, namely in part with the collaboration with NVIDIA’s G-Sync technology, along with Reflex Analyzer, allowing gamers to measure latency with one click.
Now, it all sounds very good, but what can the human eye see, and is it all just marketing fluff? Well, NVIDIA has released a video to show the benefits of 500Hz, and what it means for you as a gamer in terms of easier target tracking, minimising ghosting and better overall system latency, which in turn could be the big difference between winning or losing in-game and as professional Esports players know, that could be the pivotal point of walking away with a pocket full of cash.
Spec-wise, not much is known at this point, other than the size, panel type, resolution, refresh rate and the included NVIDIA features, though we do know that brightness comes in at 400 cd/m2 and that it comes equipped with a single DisplayPort 1.4 port and HDMI 2.0 connector as well as two USB 3.2 ports and a headphone jack.
There’s also no word on pricing or availability at this time but with the ASUS ROG Swift 360Hz panel available for upwards of $600/£600, I think it’s safe to say that it’s not going to be cheap.
