ASUS ROG MAXIMUS XIII HERO Motherboard Review

How Much Does it Cost?

Coming in at £460/$478, the price tag definitely isn’t for the faint-hearted. The MAXIMUS XIII Hero has plenty to offer for this price if you are after a more enthusiast-level motherboard.

Overview

Coming packed full of all the newest features thanks to Intel’s 11th Gen CPUs and the Z590 chipset, the MAXIMUS XIII offers everything most anyone could need in a new motherboard. If you want to get the most out of your system, this is definitely a surefire way to do so.

Build Quality & Design

ASUS ROG is known for quality and the MAXIMUS line of boards takes that one step further and puts it all into an enthusiast-grade package. The quality is second to none and it is easy to see that ASUS thought of damned near everything when designing the MAXIMUS XIII HERO board. All the features you could want in an aesthetically pleasing package!

Performance

In all of our in-house testing, this board was one of the best. While it can trade blows with others, it did find itself topping our charts quite a few times. It’s worth noting that in all our testing we always reset BIOS to default then enable the XMP profile for our RAM. This gives us close results to what most standard users who will just plug and play would get, and thus making it the fairest way. So, with that in mind, the MAXIMUS XIII HERO is an absolute beast and could be tweaked to offer even better performance.

Added Value

WiFi 6E, BIOS Flashback, HDMI 2.0 and PCIe 4.0 are all some of the things that come to mind when looking at added value. While these will no doubt be found on other Z590 boards, they do offer a lot of value if you are considering upgrading, even from a Z490/10th gen based setup.

Should I Buy One?

If you want one of the best Z590 motherboards out there, before prices start getting absolutely crazy, then yes! This board has almost everything anyone could want from the Z590 platform when paired with an 11th gen CPU from Intel. Most people will not need to look further than this unless they are an extreme overclocker in which case they can look at the MAXIMUS XIII Extreme. However, the Extreme costs over twice as much as the Hero, thus making the Hero the much more viable option for your everyday user.
