Software Overview
The App
Worried about dealing with complicated router configuration or not sure how to get the best out of the new and expensive router you’ve just purchased!? Fear not! There’s a pretty fantastic app for your phone that makes it a breeze to configure on-the-fly. On the app, you can see your network name, IP address, SSIDs, and a set of shortcuts to all the major subsections.
Gaming Mode will give your device high priority, ensuring your ping is as low as possible, and it’ll perform a few tests to let you know how well it is working. QoS is awesome too, as you can literally drag and drop items into the order of priority. Want your file sharing to get priority over Netflix? Not a problem. Want to make sure your gaming PC isn’t hindered by everyone else streaming YouTube? Easy.
Parental controls on your phone are great, as I can assign age restrictions, social media blocks, and much more beyond for any device or user very quickly. Plus, the router has an exhaustive list of security and encryption features that should help keep unwanted problems at bay. Plus you can use ASUS Instant Guard, that VPNs to your GT-AX6000, giving you secure WiFi even when you’re connected to free public WiFi anywhere in the world… yup, that’s awesome!
Web Interface
Have you ever seen a router interface look this good? I know I haven’t but then again, this is my first ever router review, but certainly not my first time using a decent router, lord knows I’ve had a fair few. Much like the mobile app, the homepage shows you all your important connectivity details.
Again, you have a fantastic breakdown of features on this interface, much more than you’ll find in the app, but that’s the point, the app is meant to be a little more consumer friendly. The router is very advanced though, so if you want to deep dive into your network management, you can certainly do that here.
The initial setup process is going to get you set up pretty much perfect every time. However, if you did need to change SSIDs, block some IP addresses, set up a guest network, file sharing or adjust your VPN, then the web interface is your port of call. It looks great, everything is well laid out and easy to find. Plus, for so many advanced features, it’s all surprisingly easy to understand and tinker with too, which is great.
