Final Thoughts

Price

The ASUS ROG SICA is priced at £24.99 in the UK, which is an absolute bargain given the build quality and sensor performance; it’s half the price of comparable Zowie and SteelSeries solutions.

Overview

I really like what ASUS has tried to do with this mouse, but I can’t help but think they’ve catered to for too small a niche part of the market, that the mouse is almost instantly useless to the bulk of their potential customers. I’m not saying its a bad mouse, because it’s not, it’s just not suitable for the majority of games and daily tasks one would associate with a desktop gaming mouse. However, if you’re a competitive gamer, who plans on hitting up LAN events, gaming tournaments or your involved in eSports for MOBA games, you will want this mouse in your armoury.

Let’s take a look at what ASUS did right with this mouse. The sensor performance is excellent, it’s as good as it’s going to get without some sweeping innovation in the way sensor technology works and when it comes to having absolute precision in your favourite game, you’ll be very happy with what this mouse has to offer. Build quality is exceptional, the finish is of a very high standard and that funky Mayan texture looks great; especially when combined with the matching Whetstone mouse mat, on which the mouse glides beautifully. Separate top panel sections for both the left and right mouse buttons, with high quality and very responsive feeling switches are great for firing off rapid commands in League of Legends.

No side buttons, as well as no on-the-fly DPI switch or a profile switch on the mouse is a deal breaker for me personally. I need lots of buttons and features on my mouse. Then again, I’m not a competitive MOBA player and in short, this mouse wasn’t designed for someone like myself; that doesn’t make it a bad mouse. MOBA gamers will love this design and as they say “less is more.” I’m happy to award this mouse our Gamers Choice Award, but keep in mind that this is in terms of MOBA gaming only, anyone else need not apply.

Pros

  • Excellent build quality
  • Changeable switches
  • Superb sensor performance
  • Responsive switches
  • Nice design

Cons

  • No side buttons
  • No native DPI or profile switch on mouse

“The SICA may lack a few features, but that’s exactly how ASUS intended it to be. If you need a very high quality, very focused mouse for MOBA gaming, then the SICA will be great. This mouse certainly isn’t for everyone, but it’s very good at the task it was designed for.”
