Final Thoughts

Price

The ASUS R0G Strix Fusion 300 Virtual 7.1 Surround Sound Gaming Headset is available right now from most major retailers. It’s priced around £100, which is a lot of money, but I think the overall quality and performance on this headset more than justifies the asking price. It’s about the same price as the G633 from Logitech, and the Void RGB from Corsair, which both offer similar specifications and performance.

Overview

I really liked the performance of the older STRIX headsets, but I just couldn’t get to grip with how freaking big they were. They felt impractical to store on my headset stand on my desk. They felt a little overbearing to use with a VR headset Also, as much as I liked the design overall, I felt a bit of an idiot with the big owl eyes on the side of my head.

Better is… better!

The new headset improves on every aspect of the older models. Firstly, and most importantly, I think they sound better. The drivers have more punch to them, and while I don’t recommend driving them at max volume till you go deaf, the drivers do stay distortion free and balanced even when you’re thrashing them.

Built-in Everything

The virtual 7.1 surround is fantastic and delivers a convincing soundscape and a much wider sound overall without compromising the audio. Upmixing of stereo sounds sound a little meh, but that’s to be expected. What’s nice is that the bulky base station is gone, and the sound hardware is now built into the headset, saving more desktop space and unifying the design.

Of course, the amp isn’t the only built-in feature, as even the microphone is not integrated into that sleek new chassis design. It keeps things neat and tidy, and you’re not going to lose your detachable microphone this way.

Should I Buy One?

I can’t find a fault with this headset. It’s certainly one of the best looking headsets on the market right now, and while that’s subjective, I stand by that statement. The audio performance is rocking, with a punchy and clear sound that’s sure to put a smile on any audio-enthusiasts face. Best of all though, it’s multi-format. If you game on multiple devices, from mobile, to console, and PC, it’ll work on them all, negating the need to own more than one.

Pros

  • Great sound quality
  • Built-in 7.1 amplifier
  • Fold-up microphone
  • Detachable USB and 3.5mm cables
  • Multi-device support
  • Swappable ear pads
  • Comfortable fit
  • Competitive price
  • Trusted brand name

Cons

  • None

“The ASUS ROG STRIX Fusion 300 7.1 Gaming Headset is easily one of the best headsets ASUS has ever made. It’s sleek, stylish, and performs as you would hope a £100 should. Highly recommended”
