With only days to go till the GTX 1080 Founders Edition hits the market, more custom variants of the card have popped up. Earlier in the week, ASUS teased their new ROG GTX 1080 GPU. Today, we’re finally getting a clear picture of what it looks like. The ASUS ROG STRIX GTX 1080 will likely be ASUS’s flagship GTX 1080 card at launch in June.
Just as the preview teaser image showed us, the ROG STRIX GTX 1080 features 12 sets of RGB LEDs on the cooler shroud. Using the ASUS AURA technology, these should be user configurable. The cooler itself features 3 fans with the Triple Wing-Blade design and 0dB operation mode. The heatsink array is divided into 2 sections and overall doesn’t look too large or unwieldy.
The biggest unknown we have now are the stock clocks, the number of power connectors and pricing. I expect we’ll see a decent factory overclock on the card but I don’t expect over 2 Ghz. For power connectors, I’m hoping ASUS has gone with a 8+6pin PCIe solution to ensure the card doesn’t bump into any power limits. I suspect we’ll see the card retail between $599 and $699, making it a better value than the Founders Edition. Hopefully, we’ll get more information at Computex.
