ASUS RoG STRIX Impact II Gaming Mouse Review

Setup & Performance

The biggest draw for me is the hardware, and the IMPACT II has some pretty great hardware features. For one, the swappable switches, as I use the same mouse from about 8 am till about midnight, as I work and game at home, so tend to use the same product longer than most consumers. Being able to replace a worn-out switch is certainly appealing to me.

Compatible Switches

  • Omron D2F Series switches: D2F, D2F-F, D2F-01, D2F-01F
  • Omron D2FC Series switches: D2FC-3M, D2FC-F-7N, D2FC-F-7N(10M), D2FC-F-7N(20M)

I almost never change my DPI these days either, strange I know, but I don’t game with my mouse and keyboard that often, so locking in a DPI and keeping it there is fine. However, if you do need to make changes, there’s a button on the bottom of the mouse.

Tucked into the middle, a lovely 6200 DPI optical sensor and well, just like every other modern gaming mouse from a premium brand, it’s brilliant. You really have to try hard to find a crappy sensor these days. The sensor will track 220 IPS, and deal with 30G max acceleration, so even the most enthusiastic of gamers shouldn’t have any issues here.

The first thing you’ll notice about the mouse when powered up is the RGB. I mean, I know that everything seems to have it these days, but it’s still nice to have customisation. The front lights are especially funky and throw some light out light car headlights.

Plus there’s a light in the scroll wheel and more light from the ASUS logo at the rear.

The colours are superb though, really vibrant and it’s all fully customisable through the software, and fully AURA Sync compatible to match other ASUS products in your PC and their peripherals.

It fits the hand really well too, even with my long fingers. I can comfortably hold it in a full palm rest, but it’s side textures and lightweight design make it fantastic for a hybrid and claw grip too. It’s certainly more comfortable and ergonomic than the old design. Either way, it’s a great mouse to hold and use for my work and gaming.

The sensor is spot on though, and from ultra-low to the max DPI, it didn’t throw up any issues for me. It’s not a pro-gaming mouse, but it’s certainly well equipped enough to be competitive in my opinion. It feels focused and fuss-free, and the switches have such a clean and defined response to them that’s really great for FPS type gaming too.
