ASUS ROG STRIX RX 6700 XT Graphics Card Review

A Closer Look

The first thing you will notice about this card is the fact it is absolutely massive! It must be one of the biggest 6700 XT’s we have tested thanks to its ROG STRIX cooling. The colour scheme seems to be almost gunmetal grey and black which looks good even without RGB. Each of the fans has ROG branding in the centre and we can also see some ROG STRIX and RADEON text as well. Vertically mounting your GPU is becoming more and more popular and it is easy to see why when you have a GPU that looks as good as this one does.

The side of the card has a good bit of plastic shroud going around it. There are some RGB LEDs in this but we will take a look at that a bit later. Other than this, we can see our power connectors and a bit of the heatsink fins. I like being able to see heatsinks around the sides as this allows for the heat to escape easier. While some may argue that it would be better to cover them for aesthetics, ASUS has done a good job at making sure it doesn’t obstruct the aesthetics too much.

Like other AIB partners, ASUS has gone with dual 8-pin power connectors. Not only will this offer the best stability, but it will also allow you to overclock it just that much further thanks to the extra power. Being able to get that little bit of extra power out of the card is almost like getting a free FPS boost. Why do we do it? Because we can and if we can, we do!

The other side of the card is a bit plain as we will see with most GPUs. We can see a couple of wires and one of the heat pipes that goes through the whole heatsink fin array.

The ASUS ROG STRIX RX 6700 XT comes with a cool little switch on it. This switch will allow you to switch between (P)erformance and (Q)uiet modes. Those who don’t want that extra bit of performance can switch it to quiet mode. However if you want the best performance the card has to offer, switch it over to the Performance mode which will up the boost clock and set the fan curve accordingly.

The back of the card is nice and open and is going to allow for the heat to dissipate from the heatsink with ease. Here we can even see some of the heat pipes just sticking out the end of the fin array. These pipes are going to be a lot of what carries the heat from the GPU chip and move it through the fin array where the fans will then help to expel it from your case.

The backplate has a nice design to it and even features the ROG eyes. My favourite part of this is going to be the cut-out bit towards the rear of the card. This small cut-out is going to allow just that more heat to escape from the heatsink helping to make sure we are able to get the most from our GPU.

ASUS has gone with the standard IO connectors for what we are seeing on the RX 6700 XT range of cards. We have a single HDMI 1.4 and three DisplayPort 2.1 connections.
