ASUS ROG STRIX X299-E Gaming Motherboard Review

CPU & GPU Performance

Cinebench

With the new Intel Core-i9 installed, it’s no surprise that the X299 boards are sitting at the top here. The Gaming-E isn’t quite as fast as the Gigabyte Gaming 9, but that motherboard is another £200, so that is no real surprise. However, for a lot less money, the X299-E Gaming is well within shouting distance.

Overclocking closed the gap nicely, with the X299-E Gaming managing to match the 4.7 GHz overclock of the Gaming 9.

WPrime

Our second fastest time ever for WPrime, not as fast as the AORUS, but still a very impressive score.

Once overclocked, the scores are extremely close. Of course, you would have to be nuts not to buy this motherboard and overclock an unlocked processor anyway.

SiSoft Sandra

Good results in SiSoft, with exceptional results in both tests.

3DMark

This is a gaming board, so it only makes sense that we should get to the gaming stuff too! At stock clocks, the result is pretty average, sitting in the lower part of our charts.

However, once overclocked, the X299-E managed our second highest score to date, not bad at all!

Gaming

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Another solid result here, showing that they motherboard and CPU are not causing any bottlenecks for the GPU performance.

Once overclocked, the score did improve slightly, giving us the second fastest score. Of course, this is a GPU throughput test more than anything.

Rise of the Tomb Raider

A bit of a stumble here, and honestly not sure why. The result was about 10 frames short, and a retest gave us the same result.

However, once we overclocked, it seemed that Gremlin was out of the system. One of our best scores ever for Tomb Raider, sitting just behind the Gaming 9 (X299) and Gaming Titanium (Ryzen X370).
