ASUS Rog STRIX X570-E Today we've got ten or more new X570 motherboards going live, wow, what a crazy week! Of course, that's not all, as today also marks the launch of both the new Radeon graphics cards and a new range of 3rd Gen Ryzen processors! We've already seen the STRIX X570 Crosshair VIII Hero motherboard, and the TUF Gaming X570 Plus, but now it's time for the ROG STRIX X570-E Gaming! The STRIX series has always been a big hit with gamers around the world. Blending high-end overclocking, amazing connectivity and stunning aesthetics into one neat package. Sure, they're often a bit more expensive, but you do get a lot for you money. Equipped with a 12+4 Phase VRM, alloy chokes, high-quality capacitors, and featuring massive heatsinks with a joining 8mm heat pipe. There's also a massive heatsink with active fan on the chipset that blends into being the M.2 heatsink too. This motherboard takes cooling performance pretty seriously, which should keep the enthusiasts pretty happy. All that high-end cooling is there for high-end hardware though. You'll find the latest PCIe 4.0 with three full-size slots, two of them armoured. There's also a pair of M.2 mounts ready for the new Gen4 M.2 NVMe SSDs. Super fast storage is backed up with fast connectivity too; 2.5 Gbps LAN, Gigabit LAN, and WiFi 6 802.11 AX will keep you well catered for. Audio comes from the flagship SupremeFX S1220A with DTS Sound Unbound. Throw in Aura Sync RGB, USB Type-C, automatic overclocking, and so much more for good measure. Despite being AM4 sockets, they do not currently work with Ryzen 1st Gen processors. The captured footage is 22 minutes and 12 seconds long, it has a bit rate of 50.1 Mbps, and it uses the Advanced Video Codec. Additionally, the video runs at a constant 30 frames-per-second and opts for a 3820 x 2140 (4K) resolution. Once loaded into Handbrake, we then transcode the 4K MP4 to an MKV file using the “normal” profile. Other Notes A rest period of 2-5 minutes is observed between each piece of software allowing the system to return to its idle power usage and temperatures. Background services like Windows Update are checked to not be running during the testing period by setting WiFi to Metered Connection. Updates All games, graphics card drivers, BIOS, Windows and everything else is always kept up to date with the latest available. Older benchmarks may not be retested until stated otherwise. However, all hardware will be tested with the best and latest firmware and software available to that hardware at the time of review. As of 1st of May 2018, all hardware was retested on their latest drivers. Anything after this date will again be using their most recent versions available to them. We've tested around ten motherboards with the overclocked CPU settings and honest, the results were broadly the same. For now, I refer you to our CPU reviews, which feature the overclocking results of the X570 chipset. I'll also include the links on the first and last pages of each motherboard review. AMD Ryzen 7 3700X & Ryzen 8 3800X Processor Review We're waiting for the platform to mature, get the launch out of the way, and we'll then take a deeper dive into overclocking on X570 with Ryzen 3rd Gen. Not only do we think this will be more useful to you, we think we'll also be able to get even better results to differentiate the motherboards when we do. Sit tight, it's coming, and we're sure it'll be worth the wait. Power ConsumptionS How Much Does it Cost? Unfortunately, we don't have any pricing information on almost any of the X570 motherboards we have to review this week. However, you should be able to check up dated pricing information in the UK here and in the US here once these reviews are published. Regardless, we expect the ASUS ROG STRIX X570-E Gaming to be fairly expensive. It's not the flagship for ASUS, but it's certainly up there in terms of hardware, so expect the price to reflect that. Overview The STRIX series has long been a fan favourite, and it's very easy to see why. ASUS are well known for making very attractive gamer focused products. The STRIX series is often tuned to the enthusiast PC gamer market, so you get slick designs, and a fist full of high-end hardware to help you maximise you experience. Of course, the ROG STRIX X570-E Gaming is right on the money for all of that. Build Quality There's a lot of style to this motherboard, but certainly not lacking in substance. The huge heatsinks over that powerful VRM phase design are far more practical than they are aesthetically pleasing. There is still an active fan for the X570 chipset, but some of that is offset with a huge heatsink, which also forms into a pair of M.2 heatsinks. It flows nicely, and it feels as durable as it looks. Everything else is picked from quality components too. Such as the Dual Op Amplifiers for the SupremeFX audio with gold capacitors, or the more robust PCB design. Performance ASUS are dominating our 3DMark top scores, with the X570-Pro hitting the #1 score of 24155, and this ROG STRIX X570-E came in second with a remarkable 24150. Admittedly our gaming results don't look great, but I think the games are too old to really benefit from the newer CPUs; we'll be updating those in the near future. Overall though, it performed strongly in CPU heavy tests such as PCMark 10, WPrime, CineBench R15 and Handbrake. Added Value I've said this a few times with this X570 launch, the added value isn't so much added as it is paid for. The new chipset is coming in at a premium from what we understand. As such, the ROG STRIX X570-E isn't going to be cheap, but you do get a lot in return. The networking is impressive, with dual LAN, and WiFi 6 built-in, as well as ROG GameFirst V. Staggering audio hardware with the S1220A codec, and Dual Op Amps. Plus, there's a huge amount of RGB built into the motherboard, with a bunch of ARGB and RGB headers to play around with too. Of course, with plenty of PCIe 4.0 lanes, and dual M.2 mounts, you're not left short of high-end GPU and storage connections. Should I Buy One While ASUS make cheaper and more expensive models, I think the ROG STRIX X570-E Gaming is going to be one of their biggest sellers. Sure, it'll cost more, but it's got a lot of very usable features for overclocking, cooling, and connectivity that are sure to appeal to the enthusiast PC gamers out there.
