ASUS ROG Zeus X79 Motherboard features CrossFireX integrated graphics

ASUS never cease to amaze when it comes to extravagant designs and the ROG Zeus X79 LGA 2011 motherboard is no exception. The board’s PCI lanes have been scrapped in place of integrated CFX Pitcairn GPUs (probably HD 7970Ms) which have passive cooling. The LGA 2011 socket gets a 10 phase DIGI+ VRM and there are 8 DIMM slots for a pair of quad channel memory kits (Max 128GB RAM supported!).
Each GPU system has its own set of video memory, and a set of 8-pin + 6-pin PCIe power connectors. The display outputs of this dual-GPU setup are given out on the rear panel, as two mini-DP + Thunderbolt ports, and one each of HDMI and standard DP. The ZEUS even has as many as 8 SATA 6 Gb/s ports, four SATA 3 Gb/s ports, and 12 USB 3.0 ports, besides two Thunderbolt 10 Gb/s ports. However, it is “highly unlikely” that the ZEUS will ever make it to the market. It is just another big tradeshow project that a company like ASUS has conducted to show off its engineering skills, and to claim the crown for the first X79 Thunderbolt motherboard.
