Asus Sabertooth 990FX AM3+ Motherboard Review
BIOS
One of the main features that the 990FX chipset from AMD has brought to the table is the ability to have a UEFI BIOS. The UEFI BIOS that Asus have included is something we’ve seen a few times before at eTeknix. We first saw its appearance at a press show last year, and also when we took a look at the E35M1-M Pro Fusion board from them back in February this year.
Due to this, we knew what to expect and already had a good understanding of what it’s like and how it works.
For those unfamiliar with the new UEFI BIOS, here’s a little rundown for you. It’sa GUI based BIOS with a fresh interface that gives simplicity a new meaning. The new EFI BIOS brings the board into the current time and doesn’t feature the dated BIOS that we’re all used to.
When the BIOS is launched, you are first shown the EZ mode which gives the basic features to give your system the best performance, energy of bit of both from a simple click. you can also view your systems main statistics and change the boot priority very easily.
For the more advanced users, there is an advanced mode which is split into sections, much like an Award/American Megatrends BIOS would be. From here you can adjust CPU and memory settings, disk drive configurations and much more. There is also the ability to overclock with ease and every aspect of this EFI BIOS can be controlled using your mouse.
Below is an example of the screens that you would see on the new Asus EFI BIOS for this motherboard:

Seem that newer isn't always better
Great review Andy! Plenty of pics with descriptions was greatly appreciated as well as your opinion about when to upgrade. Thanks!
LoL 😀
lol!i for one am glad they left the thermal armour off this board. i just didnt like the look of it and it made temps worse
I seen some builds that make it look good <img src="http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/3240/l1050729.jpg" alt="" />
that does look very, very nice, but id still rather a sweet black PCB like the GB boards have and ditch the thermal armour :/!
Awesome review, awesome MB. But Sabetooth is still ordinary MB with extra quality components. When Crosshair is more overclocker's one.
Nice looking building. Like the contrast with white fans.
the cable management could be a bit better tho! especially in that case :p!maybe im just jealous tho :p!
With the black and white contrasting colors, it could be in a Star Wars movie
no that what the Corsair 600T white is for 😀 <img src="http://img.techpowerup.org/110531/DSC_0726.jpg" alt="" /><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2648/3761399051_c8a312ea5e.jpg" alt="" />

Nice review Aruffell the only thing I don't like is having the Sata connecters facing out and not up.I have an Asus board with the the Satas facing the same way and I had to take the HHD Caddy out cut the lip off with tin snips so that I could fit more than a couple of Sata drives. Mind you if I was ever lucky enough to get my hands on this board, then it would have to be a new case.
