Asus Sabertooth X79 Motherboard Review

We’ve seen many companies give a go at SSD Caching and whilst the principle is there, it’s never really taken off as well as they’d hoped for. Asus are trying their hand at it by offering SSD-like performance with HDD capacity. It works by putting the most frequently accessed data onto the SSD and stores less frequent data such as films and general storage files onto the larger hard drive and is said to offer up to 3 times faster performance than a hard drive only system.

We can see the true potential behind this, but due to the floods in Thailand lately, the cost of mechanical hard drives has soared through the roof, and currently this isn’t a cost effective option.

If you already have a large hard drive to start with and want to try this, SSDs are still a a very competative rate and it’s well worth trying foryourself to see what you think of it in your own opinion.

Asus SSD Caching does offer some unique comparisons against Intel Smart Response Technology or SRT. SRT does what we’ve just explained above but has some limitations in terms of the not-so-friendly UI, no redundancy against data loss and is limited to using a SSD that is between 18GB and 64GB.

Asus SSD Caching offers a way around all of that and also has its own hardware controller chip which uses no CPU resources whatsoever and is a lot easier and a bit more friendly to see up for the average user.
