ASUS Shares Key Details of Intel’s New Core Ultra 200S Chiplets

Intel is gearing up for the release of the Core Ultra 200S, a new chip that might not catch the eye of most gamers. The most powerful version, the Core Ultra 9 285K, doesn’t seem to handle high-end graphics cards as well as the Core i9-14900K. Gamers are already eyeing AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which might remain the top choice for gaming for a while. But what makes Intel’s Core Ultra 200S special is its multi-chip module (MCM) design for desktops, and ASUS has recently broken down its components.

ASUS Reveals Detailed Breakdown of Core Ultra 200S

ASUS China’s general manager, Tony Yu, showed off Intel’s new chip in a video (thanks VideoCardz), explaining that the Core Ultra 200S is built with five different chips, most of them manufactured by TSMC. Intel’s Foveros technology binds them together, but only the base chip—using Intel’s 22FFL process—is Intel’s own creation.

The CPU chip is manufactured using the N3B process, while the SoC and I/O chips use N6, and the GPU chip uses N5. The P and E cores are arranged on the CPU chip, with PCIe 4.0 and PCIe 5.0 connectors placed at specific points for graphics and storage.

These technical details give insight into Intel’s first foray into MCM design for desktops. With these innovations, Intel hopes to compete against AMD’s Ryzen offerings. However, how well they perform in real-world gaming and everyday use remains to be seen.
