Final Thoughts

Price

The ASUS STRIX Wireless Gaming Headset isn’t cheap, although, given the level of features on offer, it’s pretty justified that it’s priced as a premium headset. We found the headset in stock at CCL Computers for £109.95, but shop around as you may find one a little under a £100 with various sales, and getting a price below triple figures just feels like a better deal.

Overview

The ASUS STRIX Wireless headset is one of the best ASUS headsets we’ve ever tested. I mean, I loved their DSP headset too, but the addition of wireless really takes this range of the next level in my opinion. Wireless headsets were a big no-go for me for many years, the quality just wasn’t the same and battery life was a burden I’d rather not have. However, better power management and significantly better connections for wireless tech have really turned that around and the ASUS STRIX Wireless is the perfect example of that. We used for a couple of hours a day for three days before it needed a bit of a charge, so a long gaming night shouldn’t be an issue here. Of course, the headset also works wired too, so you’ve got plenty of backup.

While this is a PC gaming headset, the wired cables that come included makes it possible to hook it up to consoles, mobile devices and more. You won’t have access to the Sonic Studio features, but it still expands on the number of applications the headset has. Sonic Studio is a great bit of software, and the EQ features are pretty responsive, while the drivers on the headset handle big changes in EQ very well, allowing you to get all the bass you could ever need from the headset, or boosted treble to help with competitive FPS gaming.

The build quality is very nice, the headset is rigid where it needs to be, and very nicely padded out everywhere else. I can be a little tight on your head at first, but this will vary from person to person. The choice of materials is good though, as the headset isn’t as heavy as it looks, the microphone is detachable, and little details like the braided cables are also welcome additions.

Overall, this is a great sounding headset with lots of customisation. If you need something that’s capable when it comes to enjoying surround sound movies, competitive gaming and blasting out music, you’ll love what it has to offer.

Pros

  • Durable build quality
  • Unique aesthetics
  • Very powerful drivers
  • Flawless wireless technology
  • Excellent surround sound processing
  • Powerful EQ
  • Can operate in wired mode
  • Good battery life

Cons

  • None

Neutral

  • Quite expensive, but you do get a lot of features for your money
  • The ASUS Owl design may not be to everyone’s liking, but style is always subjective anyway

“Some people like a simple plug and play headset, others like a massive range of features and lots of cool technology. The ASUS STRIX Wireless certainly falls into the tech-heavy side of things, but for those who like lots of audio customisation and thundering drivers, this is easily the wireless headset you’ll want at the top of your shopping list.”
