ASUS to release U82U “Ultra-Thin” AMD APU laptop

The Ultrabook naming is strictly an Intel trademark but that hasn’t stopped AMD working with its partners to try and developing an AMD powered “Ultrabook”. ASUS is going to be developing an “Ultrathin” U82U notebook powered by one of AMDs low power APU units the E450 ( two “bobcat” cores at 1.6GHz with Radeon HD 6320 graphics). The new Ultrathin U82U comes with 2GB of DDR3 RAM but 8GB is supported and the upgrade process is relatively cheap and simple for most even novice users. ASUS are giving the U82U a 500GB hard drive but it doesn’t appear to have the option of an SSD, which is a shame as the SSD option would extend battery life and improve performance considerably. Connectivity includes a couple of USB 3.0 ports and a HDMI output, the battery is an 8 cell while the screen is 14 inches probably sporting a 1366 by 768 resolution. No pricing or availability details are known just yet.
