ASUS Travelair N Wireless 1TB Hard Disk Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing

At the time of writing the 1TB ASUS Travelair N Wireless USB 3.0 hard drive can be found at Overclockers UK for £105.98 or through Geizhals for €127.32.

Conclusion

When ASUS contacted me whether I was interested in reviewing this drive, I jumped at the chance. I have tested other wireless drives in the past, but none of them had near the amount of features that ASUS packed into the Travelair N wireless portable USB 3.0 drive.

The Travelair N is a beautifully designed drive while still keeping it minimal. I like it. It is a little thicker than you might be used to, but not much and considering the added battery pack, it’s very compact. The drive is also IP43 rated with gives it resistance against accidental spills and splashes.

Besides the basic USB 3.0 feature with UASP support, the drive also features wireless connections. The drive uses the 2.4GHz band to offer 802.11n network connectivity to your mobile device as well as your router. That effectively means that you don’t lose your normal WiFi connection even though you are connected directly to the drive. It features Samba sharing for Windows and Mac OS, UPnP for easy setup, NFC for instant one-touch connections, and even a built-in SD card reader.

The included 3300 mAh battery will provide you with 8-hours wireless entertainment and you can connect with multiple users at the same time. It comes with built-in back functionality for both SD cards and your phone’s or tablet’s contact list and storage.

Is it a USB drive, a wireless drive, a network access point, a backup target, or a card reader? It is all of it in one and that a very competitive price. A definitely must-have drive for those on the road a lot.

Pros

  • USB 3.0 and Wireless connectivity
  • Built-in 3300 mAh battery
  • Integrated SD card reader
  • Splash and Spill-proof (IP43)
  • One-touch NFC
  • Android and iOS support

Cons

  • Performance dipped under the 100MB/s mark on several occasions
  • SD slot cover can’t be closed with an inserted card

“ASUS’ Travelair N wireless portable hard disk is a drive that looks minimalistic, but it packs an amazing list of features. This could very well be the perfect drive for travelers everywhere.”
