ASUS is in some hot water lately surrounding the AMD 7000 series BIOS issues and their warranties on their motherboards but today they may have dug themselves an even bigger hole.
Kitguru recently shared a comment that was posted publically on their channel which they claim to be from an ASUS UK PR representative that featured the statement “I believe buying positive reviews are legal”. This claim is from among over 30 public comments from the ASUS UK PR representative and Kitguru has recorded all of them in case they are removed.
When a PR representative claims that “buying positive reviews are legal” it doesn’t fill you with much confidence surrounding a product and its reviews. If we ignore the current issues that have been highlighted around ASUS, this statement alone seems like enough to make many consumers lose confidence in the company. Paying for positive reviews is misleading to consumers, so it’s mind-boggling to me that the PR rep thought this would be OK to post publically. The idea that ASUS would be doing this isn’t too bizarre either, I imagine many other companies also pay for positive reviews, they just don’t announce it to everyone.
I wonder whether ASUS will be able to pull itself out of this mess, but it’s always fun to watch the drama unfold.
