ASUS unveil 40 phase Z77 Wolverine motherboard at Computex 2012

ASUS are showing off a design concept motherboard at Computex 2012 know as the Z77 Wolverine. This prototype motherboard packs a huge 40 CPU VRM phases made from high quality chokes and driver mosfets. There are 20 phases each side of the PCB (i.e 2o on top and 20 below) but considering this is an Ivy Bridge motherboard and only a single 8 pin connector is present we expect the reason for more power phases is to increase stability and endurance -rather than to increase potential power delivery. It should also result in lower temperatures, meaning it may soon be unnecessary to even have motherboard heatsinks which in the long run should be good for consumers as fewer heatsinks means lower production costs. Apart from the monster CPU phases this board is almost identical to the P8Z77-V Deluxe in terms of layout and connectivity of the bottom half of the board. ASUS will have implemented the obligatory TPU and EPU switches as well.
