Not one to be left behind, ASUS has joined in the action with their new RX 470 graphics card. Part of the ROG series, the RX 470 STRIX features the current ASUS design paradigm in both performance and aesthetics. Unfortunately, the card only comes in a 4GB variant right now which does limit the Crossfire or DX 12 multi-adapter capability for the future.
Rights from the start, ASUS has differentiated themselves with above average factory overclock. While only 1270 MHz, that’s enough for the card to place ahead of several competitors in terms of clock speed. The DirectCU II cooler utilizes two fans and what appears to be at least 2 heatpipes to cool down the Polaris 10 GPU. Naturally, the fans have a 0dB mode for idle usage. In addition, the provided ASUS FanConnect allows a system fan to be connected to an onboard 4pin fan header for extra targetted cooling. Perhaps this will finally create some use for the side or bottom panel fans.
Of course, as it has been with every GPU launched in the past year, the card features controllable RGB LED lighting with ASUS Aura. The card comes in black for the shroud but orange highlights can be added in if the user so chooses. Perhaps more colours could be included or CAD files provided for users who want even more choice. There is no word on pricing but the card can’t be too expensive if it wants to compete against the closely priced RX 480.
