Asus X670 Boards – Exclusive Hands On!

ROG CROSSHAIR X670E GENE

An unexpected addition to the showcase was the return of the GENE, which has been out of the line up for quite a few generations now, not being seen since Z390 if I remember correctly, and this time around we are seeing the first AMD GENE board, as all of the previous boards were for Intel platforms. Standing out from the crowd by sporting a Micro-ATX form factor, this board will allow for smaller form factor builds whilst still maintaining some of the benefits of using a full sized board.

The Gene only Supports up to a maximum of 64GB of DDR5 memory as it only features two Dimm slots, making it far less tempting as an option for creators, but for gamers this may be perfectly acceptable as you shouldn’t need more than that anyway.

The power delivery solution is on the higher end of the spectrum of what we saw, with 16+2 phases rated at 110A per stage, this will provide more than enough power for whatever you could want this board for.

Despite its smaller size, we still see a decent number of M.2 slots, with a total of three slots, one at PCIe Gen 4 speeds and two of them at Gen 5. The Gen 5 support also goes for the shielded PCIe 16x slot that we have, meaning you’ll have no issues with future GPUs.

Connectivity is an aspect of the board that sees no compromise even given the smaller size of this board; featuring dual USB4 ports, a single USB 3.2 Gen 2×2, six USB 3.2 Gen 2, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 and six USB 2.0.

Options for internet access is just as complete as every other board we saw, with WiFi 6E for your wireless connections and an Intel controlled 2.5Gb LAN port for your wired connection.
