ASUS Z87 Maximus VI Formula (LGA 1150) Motherboard Review

Overclocking

The particular Intel Core i7 4770K chip we used to review the trio of motherboards in the graph below is only capable of 4.8GHz. Any higher and the required voltage causes it to overheat even with a Corsair H100i running in performance mode.  The ASUS Z87 Maximus VI Formula was more than capable of hitting that target with just 1.275 volts (though on this motherboard our CPU-Z misreads the CPU input voltage as the CPU core voltage). Of course results will vary depending on your CPU but what these results show is that you won’t be limited by the ASUS Maximus VI Formula, only your chip will hold you back.
