It took some time, but it’s here, DDR3L memory running at 1866MHz and featuring ECC at the same time in an SO-DIMM module size. We’ve clearly entered the time of DDR4 memory, but DDR3 is still very valid and also compatible with the latest generation processors. There are quite a few new systems still using DDR3 memory, so the market isn’t dead yet.
ATP has introduced their first and the industry’s first DDR3L ECC SODIMM technology capable of operating at 1866MHz. The ATP DDR3L-1866 modules are available with capacities of 4GB and 8GB and address the need for low voltage (1.35V) DDR3 memory running at 1866MHz instead of the usual 1600 MHz. This is particularly interesting for Intel Apollo Lake systems as they now can maximize the system performance.
Intel Apollo Lake-based IoT and embedded systems are built for operation with DDR3L memory running at 1866MHz and using both ECC and non-ECC SODIMMs at full speed. What the processors supported didn’t exist so far and the fastest available were 1600 MHz modules. ATP was able to tune its ECC SODIMM technology to support operation at 1866MHz and the new modules are designed, tuned, fully tested and validated without any system degradation or side effects.
“The successful implementation and validation of the DDR3L ECC-SODIMM at 1866MHz demonstrates ATP’s leading technical know-how, and its creativity to bring a solution to maximize the throughput of the Intel IoT platforms,” said Jerry Wang, ATP DRAM Product Manager. “ATP looks forward to any opportunity to work with our current and future OEM/ODM and IPC partners on their IoT and industrial/embedded projects.”
