AT&T Confirms $86bn Acquisition of Time Warner
John Williamson / 8 years ago
Time Warner is a mammoth media organisation which comprises of HBO, Warner Brothers, CNN and much more. As I’m sure you’re aware, these divisions are responsive for some of the most popular programmes including Game of Thrones and the Batman movies. Recently, the telecommunication giant AT&T made an astronomical bid for Time Warner which almost exceeds $86 billion. If the takeover is agreed by both parties, AT&T will be the sole owner Time Warner’s properties. An AT&T statement assured people that the deal was to give customers “unmatched choice, quality, value and experiences that will define the future of media and communications”. Not only that, the company claimed, this move would “lead the next wave of innovation in converging media and communications industry”.
On another note, AT&T will pay $107.50 for each Time Warner share alongside cash and stock amassing $85.4 billion. Apparently, the deal is expected to be finished by the end of 2017. What this means for programming like Game of Thrones remains unclear but it’s certainly going to be an interesting change. Even though the deal isn’t finalised just yet, it’s almost certain and shouldn’t take too long to complete.
What if your favourite Time Warner IP? Shockingly, I still haven’t seen Game of Thrones and need to check it out.
