August Launch for RX Vega AIB Partner Cards?
Ashley Allen / 8 years ago
The wait for AMD’s RX Vega graphics cards is interminable. Right now, we’re looking at late-July until Vega’s official launch. So, we could have reference Vega cards by the start of August. But who knows how long it will take for custom cards to follow. However, reports suggest AMD will send Vega chips to its AIB partners by the end of this week for an August launch.
Vega Silicon Ships to AIB Partners This Week – Custom Cards Launched by Early August
According to HWBattle, RX Vega silicon ships to AMD’s board partners this week. Custom RX Vega cards will then ship in late-July/early August, shortly after the reference cards. Two Vega GPUs exist at present, it claims. AMD is expected to launch Vega at Siggraph, which runs from 30th July to 3rd August. HWBattle’s report certainly tallies with that window. The article, though, is unsourced, so should be taken with a pinch of salt.
AMD’s First Vega Card
While we click our heels waiting for AMD’s RX Vega graphics cards to be released, the company is preparing to launch the workstation iteration of its new GPU. Before June is over, the Vega Frontier Edition will be upon us. The price of the Frontier Edition – a high-end card aimed at the professional market – has been revealed, thanks to a SabrePC retail listing.
The retail listing featured pricing for two models. The air-cooled version will cost $1,199, while the water-cooled variant is priced $1,799. A $600 difference for a water-cooling solution is pretty steep, but AMD must know that alternatives are slim.
The AMD Vega Frontier Edition is released on 27th June.
