Avexir MPower Series DDR3 2400MHz 8GB Review

Before I go over the memory kit itself, I do have to point out one slight gripe with the packaging that this kit came in. Many time with numerous different products, trying to get them out for the first time can be a little awkward as the pack is stiff and the items never been removed but on the most part this is never really a problem and the product will come out with no problem at all. Here however I think that the mould used to ‘grip’ the modules could do with a slight adjustment and being a fraction larger as both modules ended up separating into their main parts on removal, meaning that I had one half of heat spreader in one hand, the diffuser for the LEDs in the other and the PCB and the other half of the heat spreader still wedged inside the pack.
Whilst this is hasn’t affected the operation of the kit as the heat spreader easily reattached, for someone that is new to Avexir, this could show as poor quality control on the modules, less thinking that the packaging is to blame. Hopefully this does get noted and an alteration to the packaging design made, to reflect this matter.
Slight grumble aside and moving back on to the kit itself, when we looked back at Avexir’s Vanilla Core series memory not too long ago, we put a warning out to other manufacturers that there was a kid on the block and they were here to make a statement. Their next move with a partnered kit is a big move to make indeed.
We also found last time round when we looked at the slightly larger 16GB 2400MHz kit that there was a lot on offer and overclocking these modules today are no different, overall they achieved a higher clock speed with similar bandwidth results when the timings were allowed to flow freely, but when locked down and only the speed was adjustable we noted something more impressive over the larger kit in that whilst a lower overclock was possible, the bandwidth that resulted was much greater.
I’ll repeat a little line that Andy used when he looked at the Core Series kit back in October: “Everywhere we look, we keep seeing Avexir pop up, whether it be on forums or Facebook, they simply are everywhere. You have probably not heard much about Avexir, but you would have heard from them in some capacity or other and it seems they have a strong marketing team by handing out as many samples as possible to a variety of review sites and influential forum members to get their branding and products out there to the market and it really does seem to be working.”
Need I say more? The bottom line is that it’s great to see different manufacturers working together in harmony to produce different components that stylistically work together, as well as physically. Hopefully this trend starts to grow a little more as Avexir take the memory market by the balls and give it a huge shake up.
