Backforce V Plus Gaming Chair Review

Performance

The chair certainly looks unique, with a mixture of black and purple that really pops! Of course, as I said, there are other colours available too, and which one is best is obviously subjective. However, if the other colours are as vibrant as this purple, I bet they’ll all look stunning!

The chair has a pretty unique stance, with a curved back and a design that gets wider at the top for the shoulder bolsters. Admittedly, it’s not going to be to everyone’s taste, and while I like it, I do have to admin that I think it looks… weird.

But in a market where all gaming chairs start to look like they’re stamped out at the same factory, there’s no doubt that Backforce is doing its own thing. The design is unique, and every little detail from the headrest to the gas lift looks unique compared to the usual gaming chairs we get in the office for review.

I like the way the materials wrap around and overhang the frame too, as it adds a splash of colour from any angle.

The LED light kit is clipped in the back now, and it’s easily removed to recharge it via USB. It can also be opened up so you can change the logo inside it to something that suits your needs.

Just press it and it lights up, press again and it gets brighter, once more and you can turn it off.

The front of the chair looks so much cooler than the back. That stunning Electro Welded honeycomb provides a reflective texture that really pops from the black sections of the chair. Considering this material is made from recycled plastics it’s surprisingly soft and comfortable, but also feels hard-wearing, which is what you want for a chair that’s no doubt going to see thousands of hours of usage.

The ergonomics are interesting though, as the headrest is set a little forward, and the shoulder bolsters curve inwards ever so slightly. I do have wide shoulders and it does feel like I’m being pushed forwards ever so slightly when I sit back. It’s not uncomfortable, it’s just a little more wrap-around, while many gaming chairs have a largely flat backplane.

There are no kidney bolsters either, In most chairs I sit in the bottom of the backrest is just as wide as the top, and has large padded sections. I thought this would feel weird, but honestly, it didn’t make a difference! What does is the highly adjustable lumbar support. I used to have sciatic issues and good lumbar support fixed it (eventually). Being able to set this one from mild to a fairly aggressive setting means you should be able to find a suitable setting for your own back.

The seat is firm, but forgiving, and feels much more like a premium office chair… actually that’s true of this whole chair, it doesn’t feel like a gaming chair at all… given that most gaming chairs are largely similar. This is definitely different, and that’s certainly to its advantage, as it’s comfortable and highly adjustable, so the chair feels like it moves with you and fits more securely.

The side bolsters are quite low, so if you have a wider body or sit with your legs crossed, you should be well accommodated here.

I like the headrest, but I do feel I’m a tiny bit too tall for it at 6ft.

And if I sit with my shoulders following the shape of the chair, I’m quite far from it, but they do sell an optional cushion should you want it… I don’t, but I would have liked to see it included as standard.

The 5D armrests are endlessly adjustable, and easily moved up, down, in, out, forward, and back.

One unique feature, however, is that you can press the inside button and fold the entire armrest back out of the way. I didn’t know I needed this feature, but it’s actually pretty neat!

There’s so much room for activities!

Overall though, the chair is great, it feels a little weird at first, as it’s genuinely a unique shape and has made serious efforts to actually be ergonomic, not just copy what everyone else is doing.

It rolls quietly on the wheels, and the gas lift adjustment range is surprisingly huge, as it even gets my long legs and bit feet clear off the floor!

Now, if only Lauren would get out of it, I could get back to work!
