Baldur’s Gate 3 will officially support mods starting this September. Larian Studios, the developers, have been fine-tuning the game since its release, and now they are ready to introduce a new feature with Patch 7.
Players have been creating unofficial mods for Baldur’s Gate 3 since its launch. However, the new update will bring an officially sanctioned toolkit, making modding more accessible and reliable. This news has excited many fans who love customizing their gameplay.
Announcement
In a post on Steam, Larian shared details about the upcoming update. They mentioned, “Coming to you this September, the next major update for Baldur’s Gate 3 will also introduce an officially sanctioned toolkit.” This toolkit will allow players to make various modifications, including giving characters like Lae’zel unique hairstyles.
Alpha and Beta Testing
The closed Alpha of Patch 7 is already being rolled out to a small group of mod authors. Over the next few weeks, more modders will join the pool. In July, Larian will open registration for a closed beta, allowing around 1,000 PC players to test the mods created during the Alpha phase.
Larian aims to use player feedback throughout the summer to refine Patch 7 before its September release. They also plan to introduce other features like an in-game photo mode, crossplay, and more fixes.
Platform Support
Modding support will be available only for the PC version of Baldur’s Gate 3. However, Larian expects to extend this support to Mac and consoles shortly after. Although official mods can only be created on a PC using the modding toolkit, players will be able to use these mods on other platforms.
Larian’s continued dedication to improving Baldur’s Gate 3 and expanding its features keeps the game engaging and fresh for its community. Fans eagerly await the new possibilities that official modding support will bring.
