Baldur’s Gate 3, developed by Larian Studios, has achieved significant critical success. However, this success has come with unexpected challenges. Larian CEO Swen Vincke revealed that the continuous stream of awards began to impact the game’s development.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Awards Impact Game Development
Vincke explained that the team had to rotate developers to attend various award ceremonies. This constant travel took a toll on the team and affected their ability to focus on ongoing projects. He noted, “It affects development – there’s a lot of them. This has been a real problem.”
Larian Studios had to send different teams to different events to manage the situation. While the recognition was appreciated, it added strain to the development process. Vincke mentioned that this situation led to emotional exhaustion among the team, as they struggled to find closure on the project.
Despite these challenges, Baldur’s Gate 3 continues to receive accolades. Recently, the game won awards for Best Game and Best Narrative at the 2024 Develop Star Awards.
Larian Studios is now looking to move forward with new projects. The team is eager to shift their focus away from Baldur’s Gate and the Dungeons & Dragons brand. Vincke expressed his desire to work on new ideas and bring fresh experiences to players.
