Batman: Arkham City Mod Brings Even More Graphics Enchancements

The Batman series has long been a strong contender when it comes to giving your graphics cards a bloody good workout, with some stunning open worlds, physics, and a truckload of post processing effects. However, modders can always take a game one higher, developers max out at 10, mods go to 11 so to speak.

Modder GP-Unity has released his new graphics overhaul mod for Batman: Arkham City and he hasn’t skimped on the details here either. The mod brings new textures to the game, giving it a much crisper look which is great for high resolutions. You’ll also see that he’s stripped back the HBAO and replaced it with HBAO+, which was the format used for Arkham Origins and while more demanding, it looks a lot better.

If that’s not enough, you’ll now find Global Illumination, the Depth of Field has been disabled (good!), the quality of the shadows have been improved, we’ve got subsurface scattering, and even more reflections have been enabled on various surfaces in game. Like we said, this is a graphics overhaul.

Check my mod installation article for in-depth info on utilizing Reshade properly. Depth of field also has to be disabled through config editing, which my mod installation article shows.

Required graphics settings are outlined in the ‘Installation Guide’ text. It is highly necessary to disable any Dx11 settings. Ambient Occlusion and Anti-Aliasing also needs to be disabled. Physx may work fine on medium/normal but not sure.”

While the mod is still being worked on, the first version is now available to download. Be warned that you’ll need at least 3GB of VRAM to make use of all the new textures. The game mod is reported to work on a GTX 970 for 1080p @ 60fps, but expect exponential requirements as you step up to 2K and 4K resolutions.
