Batman: Arkham Knight is Returning to Steam

Batman: Arkham Knight launched in a horrific state on PC and marred by terrible optimization, buggy textures and instability issues. The technical bumbling forced Warner Brothers to remove the game from digital distribution channels and consumers used the Steam Refund policy to voice their dissatisfaction. Warner Brothers promised to work tirelessly on the PC version and make it their number one priority. The publisher announced, earlier than expected, a re-release date on Steam via a community post:

“As many of you know, we released a major patch for Batman: Arkham Knight PC a few weeks ago. While there were significant performance improvements made to the game, the teams are continuing to work on the additional updates that were outlined in our previous post. We expect these updates to be ready at the end of October, at which time the PC version will be made available for purchase. In addition, support for all DLC that has been released for the console versions will be in place.”

“Thanks again for your continued patience and support. We’ll be sure to update everyone as soon as the update is live.”

If the current schedule continues as planned, Batman: Arkham Knight could return before the end of October. However, I feel Warner Brothers’ response isn’t very apologetic and they should have offered the season pass or another title for free to disgruntled users. Clearly, the studio tried to produce the PC port on the cheap, and didn’t respect the PC audience. Any kind of token gesture would have helped to restore their reputation.

Once the game is properly updated, we should be able to re-asses the game’s performance across various graphics cards.
