Batman: Arkham Knight Reverts to DX10 without the Player’s Permission

Oh wow! This Batman: Arkham Knight fiasco can put Ubisoft’s recent problems to shame. Apart from suffering from incredible performance issues even on high-end cards, it looks like the game actually reverts to DirectX 10 when the player activates all four NVIDIA Gameworks effects. The issue was spotted by an Alt-Tab contributor named Thanos Psarogenis, who noticed that MSI Afterburner’s readings suddenly disappeared when he activated NVIDIA’s specific graphics effects.

He then decided to activate his Logitech G13 keyboard’s OSD, which provided some intriguing readings. As you can see in the image below, the game clearly runs in DirectX 10 mode when all four Gameworks options are set to “ON.” He then went ahead and posted another image that shows Batman: Arkham Knight running in DirectX 11 mode when the options are turned off.

I have no idea why this would even happen in the first place, but it definitely goes to show what a mess the PC version of the game is right now. I suppose that those responsible for the port had a decent reason to implement this DirectX switch, even though I can’t really think of one right now, especially since the previous Batman game ran just fine in DX 11 even though it also included its fair share of Gameworks features.

Thank you Dsogaming for providing us with this information.
