Battlefield 2042 Update to Bring Over 400 Fixes & Improvements!

I have to admit that when the first news for Battlefield 2042 broke around a year ago, I was somewhat optimistic that this was going to represent a huge (and long overdue) return to form for the franchise. When it finally plopped onto the market last November, however, this was perhaps the straw that broke the camel’s back for many long-term fans. – It wasn’t just the fact that the gameplay and balancing were bad. Battlefield 2042 was outright and shamefully both broken and unfinished!

Now, admittedly, following the release of subsequent patches and updates, EA (and more predominantly DICE) have been on damage control in order to attempt to resurrect the title. And by resurrect I mean that literally as on Steam, Battlefield 2042 is currently only averaging 2,000 concurrent players a day!

Can it be saved though? Well, following a report via Eurogamer, a brand new and major update is set for release next month that is promising to bring over 400 fixes and general improvements!

Battlefield 2042 – More Fixes Are on the Way!

Although neither EA nor Dice have yet released the patch notes for the Battlefield 2042 update, sources at DICE have confirmed that it will represent one of the biggest overhauls the title has seen to date. Some of the changes and/or improvements will include:

  • Attachments will be completely overhauled in an attempt to make them feel more unique and productive in the class/loadout
  • Balancing
    • More XP will be allocated to squads to encourage better teamplay
    • The much complained about vehicle/infantry balance will (again) be addressed
  • Game modes will be tweaked to offer better access to ‘ribbons’

It should, of course, be noted that one of the biggest complaints about Battlefield 2042 has been the lack of features and new content, and just to potentially disappoint the few of you still playing this, patch 4.0 isn’t expected to add anything particularly new. In fairness to EA and DICE though, the recent patches for the game have shown a definite pitch towards improving the game before they decide to add to it.

At this point though, I can’t help but feel that with Battlefield 2042, the damage has already been done. A factor that may, as per a number of reports allegedly coming from directly within EA, see the title eventually transition to free-to-play! And let’s be honest, at this point, it would hard to argue against that.

What do you think though? – Let us know in the comments!
