The Battlefield 3 Open Beta has been open since Thursday now but it hasn’t all been smooth and seamless. There have been a tonne of bugs with the game including in game glitches, engine problems and graphical performance related issues. The first update attempts to address a lot of the key problems with the game. In terms of the graphical performance issues both Nvidia and ATi/AMD released beta driver updates for those wanting to play the game which Nvidia claimed increased performance by as much as 38% whilst ATi/AMD graphics cards didn’t see that much of a performance boost since the game runs reasonably well on those cards already.
Gameplay bugs that were fixed include spawning on dead team mates, client crashing when trying join servers, game crashing when reviving another player and the kill cam going under the map. A whole other list of fixes was also released:
* Fixed occasional client crash when reviving.
* Fixed killcam showing glitched area under map if your killer is dead.
* Issue with spawning on dead squad mates fixed.
* Fixed a bug where shooting at a moving enemy could cause more than the intended amount of damage.
* Crosshairs for shotguns have been replaced with a new, thinner, art.
* A subtle low health screen effect has been added.
* Tweaked scores of Medals and Service Stars.
* Tweaked the Rank progression.
* Pushing prone on console will not play the animation twice.
* Fixed loss of Squad Leader after EOR at some times.
* Framerate stability fixes.
* The 3D spotting icons has been tweaked to better match the target’s visibility. Icons will show frequently less on mostly obscured targets.
* Fixed issue with crosshair disappearing after round transition.
* Fixed issue with crosshair disappearing after trying to deploy while the countdown timer still active.
* Squad list now shows specializations chosen, VOIP activity and dead squad mates.
* Non working options in squad menu fixed: “Private” flag and “Switch Teams”.
Although It may seem that the Beta is quite buggy these fixes certainly go a long way to improving things and EA also claims the retail version is about 3 weeks ahead of the Beta version so any problems encountered in the Beta have probably already been fixed in the retail version but are being tested again to ensure they can be fixed properly. There is still another week left of the Open Beta so if you haven’t had a chance to have a play make sure you get the game for free here.
