The highly anticipated Battlefield 1 expansion – In the name of the Tsar, is set to include female soldiers. This is the first time in the game series history that female characters will be available to engage in the multiplayer warfare. The announcement was made by Battlefields Global Community Manager, Dan Mitre, on his Twitter Feed.
It isn’t entirely surprising really. Following the recent announcement that the upcoming shooter Call of Duty WW2 would feature female soldiers, this was surely on the horizon. In addition, for those who might say that this is merely a move to please the liberals, it is actually historically accurate.

They were very real and very tough. These were after all Russian soldiers fighting a losing battle, badly equipped with awful leadership.
The role of female soldiers in wars is often overlooked. The inclusion of female characters, at the very least, acknowledges their involvement. Battlefield 1 is an excellent game, but it also very successfully and secretly teaches us history. Much of what occurs with the games single player campaign is a largely true reflection of the campaigns. Therefore the ultimate inclusive of women is not just a promotional stunt, its historical fact.
Some will no doubt merely view this as a move to appease and they could well be right. Russian female soldiers in WWI were a fact. This is not a matter of dispute and if this DLC can help spread awareness of this, then all the better.
The expansion to Battlefield 1 – In the name of the Tsar, is due for release late summer 2017.
