A Closer Look – Exterior
Power Supply Unit
The Straight Power 10 CM 800W unit features a redesigned fan mounting mechanism. The circular area no longer features an orange ring and is based on multiple straight sides instead of a perfect circle.
On one side we find a power label: you’d see this if you mount it with the fan facing down in the bottom of your case.
The other side is plain and this is what you’d see mounting it with the fan facing up at the bottom of your case.
Around the rear is a kettle lead input and a power switch. Hexagonal mesh allows the PSU to exhaust its hot air.
At the cable end we find one motherboard 24 pin pre-fitted while all of the other cables are modular. With the 800W model we have a multiple rail design. The 1st 12 volt rail incorporates the motherboard connector and all peripheral connectors (SATA, molex, FDD), the second 12 volt rail provides power to the CPU, 12 volt rail three provides power t0 PCIe connectors 1 and 2 (PCIe 1) and 12 volt rail four is assigned to PCIe connectors 3 and 4 (PCIe 2)
The base is totally plain.
Cabling
We’ve already shown the cable configuration on the first page but a quick recap will be presented here. be quiet! provide four 6+2 pin PCIe connectors on two cables, a single CPU 4+4 pin cable and then four peripheral cables which offer 11 SATA, 3 molex and two FDD connectors.
The motherboard 24 pin comes fixed. All cables feature the same combination of average quality sleeving with exposed ends. be quiet! still need to work on the quality of their cabling if they want to capture the enthusiast market properly.
