Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 2 CPU Cooler Review

The Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 2 is a stunning looking cooler, especially from the top. Apologies as ours seems to have got a little dirty…and I lack the Photoshop skills to edit that out. That aside, just wow.
From the side you can see the design is dominated by the Silent Wings PWM fans with grooved blades for reduce noise output. I’m a little dissapointed to see Be Quiet! didn’t use the all-black anti-vibration rubber mounts but during testing it didn’t vibrate anyway so I can’t complain too much.
From the side you can see a lot more clearly the dual tower heatsink design. It is also obvious that the central fan is bigger than the side fan, which it is. The central fan is 135mm whilst the side fan is 120mm. This allows the middle fan to push more air – which it needs to as its “choked” by two heatsinks on either side of it.
44 Aluminium fins make up each heatsink tower in addition to those 7 heat pipes at the bottom that look rather awesome.
Be Quiet! always provide the highest quality CPU contact plate, I cannot stress enough how much better the flat base is compared to the “flattened-heat pipe”design. It offers more even contact, better thermal paste application and ultimately better temperatures as a result.
Here you can see more closely that machine finish on the base plate. You can also see the grooved design of the heatsinks which allow for greater surface area and better performance.
