Now admittedly, on the surface of things in regards to outright CPU temperature control, the be quiet! Pure Rock 2 FX doesn’t appear to do too overly well as it clearly errs towards the less favourable end of most of those respective charts. There are, however, many factors that have to be taken into consideration.
Firstly, the be quiet! Pure Rock 2 FX is not a big cooler. No, it’s not ultra-slim either, but compared to a 240/360mm AIO or an exceptionally chunky air cooler, this is, overall, quite small which, by proxy of volume, will always see it somewhat limited in terms of ultra-high-end performance. – With all this being considered, therefore, the be quiet! Pure Rock 2 FX performs impressively well.
Whether at stock or overclocked settings, the figures provided in our temperature check were notably low and actually see this rubbing shoulders with many substantially larger models. The key factor though, as the manufacturer’s name might suggest, is noise. – The be quiet! Pure Rock 2 FX is an exceptionally quiet CPU cooler as indicated in our acoustic tests.
Although not part of our testing methodology, I’m pretty certain that some amazing compromises can be found through relatively humble tweaks in the BIOS to the PWM fan settings. In trading off just a little of its low-acoustic noise, I suspect the temperatures would fall by as much as 1-3C which, as you can see below, would clearly make a huge impact on where this sits in the overall comparative landscape we have here.
If I was to own and use this CPU cooler, this is exactly what I would do. I just think the generic BIOS fan settings (as per our methodology) don’t entirely reflect just how amazing the be quiet! Pure Rock 2 FX is!
