Bethesda Slaps HTC Vive for Lying about Fallout 4 VR Release

I bet they didn’t see that coming!

Bethesda has been forced to give VR headset maker HTC Vive a slap on the wrist following them claiming that the upcoming Fallout 4 VR game was going to be a Vive exclusive. Naughty, Naughty!

The battle of virtual reality is starting to heat up and both the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift find themselves clamoring for exclusives. With respect to that, in this writer’s humble opinion, the Oculus is winning that war.

When considering the much lower price of the Oculus, particularly after the Summer sale and announcement of a permanent price cut, the Oculus has been doing very well in recent months. It also, by and large, has a lot of exclusive titles which makes the brand even more attractive.

Therefore HTC Vive either through use of poor wording, a genuine accident or in an endeavour to fake a bit of one-upmanship decided to announce a rather misleading post earlier this week that the upcoming Fallout 4 VR was going to be exclusive to the HTC Vive.

This has led to Bethesda giving the Vive team a bit of a wrist slap reports PCGamesN.

Fallout 4 VR is NOT an HTC Vive exclusive!

Less than 5 minutes after this withering put down by Bethesda, HTC Vive posted a new tweet, cap in hand, attempting to worm out of it.

Bethesda has made things 100% crystal clear that although Fallout 4 VR is coming to the Vive first, they still have every intention of bringing it to ‘other’ platforms. This basically means that Oculus Rift and PS VR owners are highly likely to get a slice of the action.

With the recent announcement that Skyrim was set to come to the HTC Vive, personally, I have no idea why they felt the need to ‘exaggerate’ this Fallout 4 VR claim. It’s not as if the HTC is the inferior product here. Even as an Oculus owner, I fully and freely admit that the Vive is the superior product in quality.

Yet, the Betamax has superior quality to VHS, yet lost that war due to VHS being notably cheaper. It’s my feeling that HTC Vive might have been feeling a little Betamax fever.

What do I mean by that? well, the recent price cut of the Oculus has seen its popularity soar. HTC Vive, while the superior product, is not, at least on the surface of things winning this war.

And as we all know, War… War never changes!

Fallout 4 VR is set to release as an initial HTC Vive exclusive on December 12th 2017.
