An update to the Gear Manager app has enabled better and more detailed notifications from any application to be read right on the Galaxy Gear itself. The previous version only notified you of a notification and told you to check your phone for the details of that notification. Nothing fancy about that, and surely it was not likely tot impress a lot of people.
Taking out your phone and opening the notification beats the whole idea of notifying you of it on your wrist. The vibration feature of every handset can tell you of the notification and you still have to take your phone out of your pocket. It made the Gear useless from this point of view.
Now that update is here. Along with the notifications being expanded to all apps, they are also improved as a whole. Moving forward you will get more information on your wrist and even have an option to open it on your device. While the issue of limited notifications seems to have been taken care of, there are still a few issues that remain. One is regarding the compatibility, which is still lacking for anything below the Note 3, but it is subject to change (slowly however) with the latest Android 4.3, and the other is the gadget’s price. $299 / €222 / £186 is just too steep given other smartwatch competitors on the market.
For installing the update, the Galaxy Gear needs to be running the latest firmware version. Given that is the case, the Galaxy Gear Manager app from the Samsung Apps store and you’re all set.
