Bill Gates Admits he has Switched to a Competitor

Bill Gates candidly admits preferring a competitor.

In a rather candid interview, the founder of Microsoft Bill Gates has admitted that in at least one area in his life, he has, by choice, switched to a competitor. Before the hysteria begins, he hasn’t changed his operating system to Linux, but it’s not far off.

Bill Gates has admitted that when he recently upgraded his phone, he chose one without the Windows Operating System installed. Although the model of phone has not been discussed, Bill Gates has officially switched to Android.

Now, Bill Gates does have an uncanny knack of predicting the future. You can see how right he was in this 1994 Playboy interview. However, I don’t think he expected Microsoft’s admittedly late entry into the mobile phone market to be so poor. In fairness to the Windows Mobile platform, it isn’t bad, it’s just not as good as its competitors. Hence why in the report, via the BBC, Mr. Gates now calls his friendly on an Android device.

Well, at least he didn’t switch to Apple.

Yes, in a joke that would have been for the ages, Bill Gates while not disclosing the phone brand, did say categorically it wasn’t an iPhone.

In fairness, the failure of the Windows Phone was not solely of its own making. Since Microsoft signed a deal with Nokia, a brand which was also in decline, it wasn’t the best thinking. In addition, and in fairness to Mr. Gates, this was mostly under Steve Bulmer’s rather chaotic reign.

That being said, when Mr. Gates was asked what his biggest Windows regret was, he didn’t say the mobile phone version. Incidentally, he didn’t say Vista either.

What did you think of the Windows mobile? Did you own one and if so, were you disappointed? Let us know in the comments!
