Biostar has released a couple of mice in the past that were labelled as gaming mice, but they were entry-level devices that didn’t peak much interest. Now the company is ready with their latest gaming mouse and this time they used quality components all the way through. The new gaming mouse is called the GM5 and it looks quite nice with its carbon fiber-like design.
Feature-wise, the new Biostar GM5 comes with a PMW 3330 optical sensor that features up to a 7200 DPI resolution. The frame rate is specified at 8000 fps, the tracking speed is 150 inches per second, and the report rate is variable between 125 and 1000 Hz. The DPI isn’t fixed either at its 7200 DPI maximum settings, it can be adjusted from 50 DPI on and upwards.
The Biostar GM5 also uses quality Omron micro switches which last for up to 5 million clicks each. It is a mouse designed for claw-grip and weighs 130 grammes. The USB connector cable is nylon raided and 1.8 metres long. The buttons and settings can be changed through the included software and it features 5 different modes and 8 programmable buttons. The glide pads under the mouse are made of Teflon, so you should have a great and smooth experience while you play your favourite games.
No hardware is complete without LED effects these days and naturally the Biostar GM5 also features this. The scroll wheel and sides feature LED lighting for a great look while they also provide an intuitive display of the current DPI level.
Overall, the Biostar GM5 looks like a really good mouse with basic features that should satisfy most. The price is also very fair as the GM5 comes with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of just $39.99.
As a bonus, Biostar also included free invite codes for World of Tanks – as they do with their Intel 200-series motherboards, all new graphics cards, gaming mice, and keyboards. While it doesn’t add anything to the mouse itself, it’s a nice bonus that will give players access to premium gifts in-game.
