Not too long ago, ASRock has revealed an impressive technology called SKY OC, which allows Intel’s 6th Gen non-K CPUs to be overclocked despite having a locked multiplier. Now, BIOSTAR is offering similar overclocking opportunities through its HyperOC technology, which is available on its Z170 motherboards via a BIOS update. The overclocking potential of the new Skylake processors is quite impressive on BIOSTAR’s boards, as they can support performance increases of up to 35 percent. This means that you can take an entry-level processor such as the Pentium G4400 and increase its base frequency of 3.3GHz all the way up to 4.48Ghz. A Core i3-6100T can also receive a boost from 3.2GHz to 4.32Ghz.
Obviously, the same principle applies to the new Core i5 and Core i7 CPUs, which would undoubtedly sport even more impressive improvements thanks to their higher base clocks. Usually, K-labeled processors are more expensive due to their unlocked multipliers, so it’s great to know that those who don’t plan to take overclocking to extreme figures can still squeeze some extra power from their standard CPUs. If you own a BIOSTAR Z170 motherboard, then you should probably update your BIOS and give this technology a try, but make sure to keep an eye out on your temperatures if you decide to do so.
