Biostar Serves Up New VA47D5RV42 Card for Cryptocurrency Mining

When everyone else thought the mining craze is over, Biostar thought differently and released mining related products. Their showcase at Computex even included a mining rig hooked up to their mining oriented motherboard. Now, that the cryptocurrency mining craze is back, Biostar has a new product to go with it as well. This time it is in the form of a mining GPU called the VA47D5RV42.

VA47D5RV42 Features

The Biostar VA47D5RV42 is based on a Radeon RX 470 GPU. Unlike most mining oriented cards however, Biostar did not remove any external display connectors. There are three DisplayPorts, one HDMI and one DVI connector too hook up a monitor to. The Radeon RX 470 GPU engine clock runs at 1200MHz while the 4GB GDDR5 memory clock is running at 7000MHz.

Cooling System

Since the Biostar VA47D5RV42 is going to be operating 24/7, Biostar outfitted the card with a dual-fan cooling system. The active cooling pair measures 90mm each so that it does not have to run at high RPM to keep cool. Two fans also means there is some redundancy in case one fan fails. Underneath is a dual-heatpipe heatsink design directly on top of the GPU core. This card goes well with Biostar’s own mining boards.

Pricing and Availability

Biostar did not disclose any pricing or availability yet. Since the demand is high for video cards providing optimal hash rates, it is currently unusually high. A quick check on NewEgg for example shows the average RX 470 priced at over $500 USD or more.
