Ahead of the Ryzen launch, many motherboard vendors have started to show off some of their new motherboards. Starting with Bristol Ridge and Ryzen, AMD is moving to a new platform and socket and that means new motherboards. AM4 features the new X370 high-end chipset as well as the lower end B350 and A320. So far, Biostar has revealed 7 new motherboards ready for Zen.
For X370, we have the Biostar X370 GTN, Biostar X370 GT7, Biostar X370 GT5 and Biostar X370 GT3. The GT7 is the highest end model featuring the most extensive VRM heatsinks with a total of 14 phases. Even for the rest of the lineup, 7 phases is as low as it goes. Except for the GTN, they all feature at least 2 PCIe x16 slots with the GT7 sporting an extra one. Other common features include Realtek Dragon LAN, Vivid LED DJ, and solid capacitors.
For the mainstream B350 chipset, we have the Biostar B350 GTN, Biostar B350 GT5, and Biostar B350 GT3. Interestingly, these boards all sport a 7 phases power delivery system as well. However, PCIe lanes peak out at a double PCIe x16 slot except for the GTN which features only one. As expected, all the boards feature Realtek Dragon LAN, Vivid LED DJ, and solid capacitors as well.
With the new lineup of chipsets, AMD’s CPU platform gets a major update as last. While AMD hasn’t stood still with their chipsets, most if not all of the innovation comes from the FMx APU lineup. Starting with Ryzen and AM4, AMD has a chance to come back with a full platform update.
